Homeopathy

Therapy Introduction

The word "Homeopathy" is derived from the Greek translation meaning "same feeling". In the 18th century Dr. Samuel Hahnemann discovered that experimental substances used on healthy volunteers could cause symptoms, and when these symptoms were matched with those of people suffering from illness, the causative substances could be used to bring about improvement and cure. In other words, "let like to treated by like".

The homeopath believes that each person is an individual, and that it is the whole person who is sick, not merely a particular organ or limb. The patient's temperament and personality, constitution and responses are studied in order to select a suitable remedy, which will usually treat all of the patient's symptoms.

All homeopathic medicines are derived from natural sources and are diluted and potentialised so that the curactive properties are enhanced, and the poisonous properties are lost.

Homeopathic medicine can be used for many purpose. Apart from the obvious treatment of illness, it can be used in preventative work, for example to reduce the trauma of surgery, in midwifery to benefit mother and baby and in veterinary practice. For treatment of minor injuries, the 6c potency can be used, but in the case of persistent symptoms or chronic illness, the advice of a qualified homeopathic practitioner should be sought.
